PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION


Statistics is the science of collecting, analyzing and making inference from data. Statistical methods and analyses are used to communicate research findings to support hypotheses and give credibility to research methodology and conclusions. Social workers need to know how to do various statistical analyses using well-established methods to gather, to sort, to organize and to analyze data of their research study. This course will support social worker students’ to understand and describe phenomena in our world and to help them draw reliable conclusions about those phenomena. It is important for them to understand statistics so that they can be informed, evaluate the credibility and usefulness of information. At the end of this course, students will be able to apply univariate and bivariate statistics and analysis of variance to analyze data obtained from their research work. Students will learn to formulate research questions and hypotheses, choose the appropriate statistical analyses, conduct these analyses, using SPSS, interpret their findings, and communicate their results clearly and effectively.


PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

 

  • To guide the students to choose and apply appropriate descriptive and bivariate statistical techniques to address research questions and hypotheses.
  • To train the students to use SPSS for univariate and bivariate data analyses and interpret findings.
  • To teach them for communicate results clearly and effectively, using APA format.

To develop skills and Attitudes in:

  • Application of statistics
  • Application of SPSS.
  • Analyzing social work research
